PACHMARHI

Pachmarhi is Madhya Pradesh's most verdant jewel, a place where nature has found exquisite expression in myriad enchanting ways. Green shades embrace the mountains, and everywhere is heard the gentle murmur of flowing water. Bridle paths lead into tranquil forest glades, groves of wild bamboo and jamun, dense sal forests and delicate bamboo thickets.
Complementing the magnificence of nature are the works of man; Pachmarhi is also an archaeological treasure-house. In cave shelters in the Mahadeo Hills is an astonishing richness in rock paintings. Most of these have been placed in the period 500-800 AD, but the earliest paintings are an estimated 10,000 years old.
Pachmarhi is the only hill station of Madhya Pradesh. It is an ideal place to escape the summer heat of central India. Captain Forsyth of Bengal Lancers was the first to spot this saucer shaped valley in the Satpura ranges in 1857 and recognized its potential for growth as a health resort. The point from where he first saw this place used to bear his name but now it is known as Priyadarshani Point. Pachmarhi was developed as a hill resort by the British and still retains that old-world colonial charm.
The only hill station in Madhya Pradesh, Pachmarhi is a beautiful holiday destination which attracts tourists from all across the globe. It is believed that Pachmarhi has derived its name from the five caves which provided shelter to the Pandhavas, the five brothers of the Hindu epic, Mahabharata.

Catholic Church
Built in 1892 by the British, the Catholic Church is a blend of French and Irish architecture. Its Belgium stained-glass win-dows add rare attraction and beauty to the building. The Church has a cemetery attached to it and graves date from 1859, World War I and II.
Satpura National Park
Satpura National Park this National Park, was set up in 1981, and is a home of amazing variety of flora and fauna including sal, bamboo and teak trees and tigers, leopards, deer and many species of birds. Bison Lodge the oldest house in Pachmarhi, was built in 1862. It has now been converted into a beautiful museum. .
Pandav Caves
Pandav Caves these are actually five ancient dwellings excavated in the sandstone rock in a low hill. Pachmarhi derives its name from these caves, which, according to the legend, once provided sanctuary to the five Pandav brothers. These caves are now protected monuments.
Priyadarshani Point
Priyadarshani Point previously was known as Forsyth Point, this point marks the spot from where Pachmarhi and was discovered by Captain Forsyth in 1857.
Priyadarshani (Forsyth Point)
Pachmarhi was discovered by Captain Forsyth in 1857. The point from where the British Officer of the Bengal Lancers got a glimpse of the beautiful land was named Forsyth Point. It was later renamed as Priyadarshani Point.
The British converted the hill station to a resort. The British influence on Pachmarhi can be witnessed by the architectural wonders, the beautiful churches and other monuments. The colonial architecture adds to the beauty of the verdant hills of Pachmarhi in Madhya Pradesh.
Jamuna Prapat (Bee Fall)
Offering drinking water to the people of Pachmarhi the marvelous fall and the pool above it are a popular tourist location in Pachmarhi. The Jamuna Prapat drops 50 meters.
Rajat Prapat (Big Fall)
Close to the Apsara Vihar is the adventurous path amidst huge rocks and boulders which leads to the magnificent Rajat Prapat (Big Fall).
Jalawataran (Duchess Falls)
The fall of the Jalawataran (Duchess Falls) is extremely sharp and the trek to the base of the fall is exceptionally difficult. This is also a popular tourist destination in Pachmarhi
Handi Khoh
A well known gorge of Pachmarhi, Handi Khoh has a 350 feet high rock face. The sides of this ravine are extremely steep.
Mahadeo
A hill which has a shrine of Lord Shiva and Shivalinga is considered a holy sitefor
the hindus. The cave shelter close to the hill has beautiful cave paintings that
attracts the attention of the tourists.

There are beautiful groups of cave shelters in and around Pachmarhi like Dhaudhar, Bharat Neer and Asthachal. The beautiful paintings are a special attraction.
By Air
Less than 200kms from the capital of Madhya Pradesh, Pachmarhi is easily accessible by air. The domestic airport of Bhopal is connected by regular flights to the rest of the countries.
By Rail
The nearest railhead Pipariya is just 47kms away from Pachmarhi. Pipariya is regularly served by trains from important stations.
By Road
Although Pachmarhi is a hill resort, excellent road connection links this little hamlet virtually to any part of the state of Madhya Pradesh. You can reach Pachmarhi from important cities like Bhopal, Gwalior, and Indore by surface.
